Many of the ideas I share on this Web site were developed at the Urban School of San Francisco, my place of employment since 1981. In addition to my part-time position as a teacher in Urban's Math Department, I direct the Center for Innovative Teaching (CIT).
Urban offers an extraordinarily supportive environment where we emphasize teacher collaboration, discussion of student learning, and appropriate use of technology (see the article on Apple's Web site).
As a result, we have been able to develop classroom-tested courses, units, and approaches that can strengthen, complement and enrich the curriculum at any school. We share these with the broader educational community at conferences, through the CIT, and on the Web:
- My presentations at conferences
- My summer workshops for math teachers at CIT 2010: Algebra | Geometry
- CIT 2010 workshops for teachers in several disciplines, and for school leaders
- Lori Hébert's site for language teachers: Go Lingual
- Howard Levin's site about technology and education
I hope you will find a way to make use of some of this!
